Auction Makes Bid To Fill United Fund’s Wallet

Once again, the community showed its support for local non-profits by filling the Knights of Columbus Hall with auction-goers.

This year’s event, the largest single evening of fundraising for the Decatur County United Fund (DCUF) added approximately $55,000 to the tally of this year’s campaign, DCUF Executive Director Joane Cunningham reported.

Auction committee members Chris Bower and Sandy Nieman explained that planning for the event began in August, and despite continuing concern relating to the economy, donations of auction items was still a show of community support. For 13 years, the event has helped to support the DCUF as it spreads funding to the area’s non-profit organizations.

While seats at this year’s auction were not sold out, attendance was strong and Cunningham reported that all went smoothly as members of the community bid in both silent and live auctions for items ranging from a set of Japanese prints to dinner for eight at St. Elmo’s Steak House or wall designs supporting each of the high schools.

Throughout the evening, 126 items found new homes as the community showed its support for the DCUF. Still, the campaign has not met its goal.

Donations may be sent to 108 S. Broadway, Greensburg.
