The students in this fall’s Greensburg Junior High School musical are preparing to cast their audiences down the rabbit hole when their production of Alice In Wonderland, Jr., hits the stage this weekend.

Show times are at 7 p.m. on both Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14 in the Greensburg Junior High School auditorium. On Thursday, Nov. 12, the young actors will perform the play for their school and Greensburg Elementary fifth graders, according to GJHS choral director Heather Simpson.

The junior high’s updated take on the classic tale by Lewis Carroll features snappier dialogue and new arrangements of classic Disney songs like “I’m Late,” the “Un-birthday Song” and “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.” Alice, played by actors Allie Louder, Sydney Reynolds and Kacy Hamer to represent the character at different sizes, quickly finds herself at the center of a strange adventure after she chases the White Rabbit down a hole. Inside, she races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing caterpillar and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game.

The GJHS production features a cast of more than 60 students, including three Cheshire Cats and dozens of other wacky characters.

“I wanted to do something popular this year, as well as a show that had a cast that could feature either boys or girls,” Simpson explained.

This week’s dress rehearsals were an important part of making the show come to life this weekend.

“A lot of kids have been sick,” Simpson said. “And I myself had strep throat last week so we missed a couple of practices.”

Despite the setbacks, this weekend’s shows are ready to entertain. The cast includes: Lexi Ryle, Courtney Nelson and Sydney Wettering as the Cheshire Cat; Laura Perkins as Mathilda; Allie Louder, Sydney Reynolds and Kacy Hamer as Alice; Mary Kate Porter as the White Rabbit; Sean Roberts as Doorknob; Huntyr Claybrook as Dodo Bird; Jessica Burkman, Emma Carter, Shaley Courtney and Rebecca Fletcher as the Rock Lobsters; Kate Bausback and Kaylie Wood as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum; Jenna Schutte as Rose; Abbey Bausback as Petunia; Allie Geis as Lily; Mary Wagner as Violet; Maddi Hellmich as Daisy; Bobbi Quinlan as Caterpillar; Rebecca Caddell as Mad Hatter; Deven Mitchell as March Hare; Brooklyn Chance as the sinister Queen of Hearts; and Kyle Howard as King of Hearts.
