United Fund Seeking Help to Reach Goal

As of now, the Decatur County United Fund’s 2009 campaign, “United We Stand: Investing In Our Community,” is just shy of meeting its yearly goal.

This year’s goal was $265,000, and events like the Day of Caring, Pizza King Day and the United Fund Auction have boosted the organization’s efforts to remain visible in the community and continue raising money. Currently, the DCUF has reached about 98 percent of its $265,000 goal according to a recent release.

“That shortage is important to all of us,” United Fund executive director Joane Cunningham explained. “After all, chances are you know of someone who has benefited from the services of at least one United Fund agency.” The agencies and groups that benefit from the DCUF’s efforts include: support services of Hospice; CASA kid tied up in the court system with no legal guardian and Advocates for Children; the uninsured patients at the Free Health Clinic; the natural disaster and fire victims served by the American Red Cross and Salvation Army; the homebound wearing the Lifeline necklaces for emergency help; feeding the hungry at Bread of Life; licensed childcare at Carousel Play and Learn Center; finding a needed resource at First Call for Help, 2-1-1; legal assistance from a professional at Legal Aid; nutritional meals for qualified clients at Meals on Wheels; a safe haven from domestic violence at New Directions and Turning Point; a free pre-school program for income eligible students at Head Start; Decatur County Family YMCA programs that build healthy spirits, minds and bodies; and outreach programs to the St. Paul community at the St. Paul Senior Center.

The Decatur County United Fund is encouraging residents and organizations to continue giving to the cause and providing the two percent of the $265,000 campaign goal. Those looking to help can mail their donations to the United Fund office at 108 S. Broadway, Suite 1, Greensburg, 47240.

“By giving a little extra this year you are helping to support the best possible. The community has been very good to us. Many agencies have experienced a drastic increase in need and services. The United Fund is very close to our goal. We hope those that intend to pledge for 2009 will do so. Also, anyone wanting to send a donation may forward that to the office. No amount is too small. We appreciate every dollar received,” Cunningham explained.
