Girl, 15, killed in State Road 3 accident

Greensburg — GREENSBURG – One teenager was killed and another injured in an accident involving two vehicles on State Road 3 Tuesday evening.

According to a report from Decatur County Sheriff Greg Allen, Lindsay K. Noah, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at the intersection of State Road 3 and County Road 500 North.

Lindsay Noah, a sophomore at North Decatur High School, was a passenger in a 2002 Pontiac driven by her brother, Isaiah Noah, 18.

The driver sustained eye and facial injuries, the sheriff said. He was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis via ambulance.

The accident occurred when the eastbound Pontiac failed to stop at the stop sign at County Road 500 North just before 6 p.m. They were subsequently struck on the passenger side by a northbound Chevrolet pick-up driven by Rebecca Jo Smith, 62, of Rushville.

The impact of the crash forced the Pontiac passenger car into the yard of a residence located at the northeast corner of the intersection. Smith’s truck rolled onto the driver’s side in the northbound lane of State Road 3, facing south. Both Smith and Isaiah Noah had to be extricated from their vehicles by firefighters.

Smith complained of aches and pains, but did not appear to be seriously injured, Allen said.

The accident slowed traffic to one lane on State Road 3 for approximately 90 minutes. Traffic was stopped entirely for approximately 15 minutes while the vehicles were removed.

In addition to the Sheriff’s Department, the Greensburg Fire Department, Adams Township Volunteer Fire Department, Decatur County EMS and the Decatur County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
