A Greensburg man found dead early Monday in a Lincoln Street house fire died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, investigators say.
Decatur County Coroner Charity Banks identified the deceased as Timothy Andrew Adkins, 34, Tuesday afternoon, following an autopsy conducted by the Marion County Coroner’s office.
Final toxicology reports may take several weeks, she said.
As was previously reported in the Daily News, the Greensburg Fire Department was called to a house fire shortly before 12:30 a.m. Monday at 629 North Lincoln. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters entered the residence and discovered a deceased male, later identified as Adkins, in a rear bedroom of the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and Greensburg Fire Chief Scott Chasteen had nothing new to report after the coroner released the cause of death Tuesday.
Chasteen told the Daily News early Monday that members of the state fire marshal’s office were aiding in the investigation as was a crime scene investigator.
Sources reported later Tuesday that the fire appeared to be set.
The Daily News will have more on this story as it develops.
