Seniors may qualify for free monthly food package

(Continued)

The CFSP seeks to help low-income older adults to meet their nutritional needs. Every month, eligible seniors will receive a food package containing approximately 40 pounds of food. This will include high protein items, grains, vegetables, juices, and shelf-stable milk. Every other month, the package will contain powered milk.

To qualify for one of the CFSP food packages, the applicant must be age 60 or older; live in Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, or Jennings County; and have a monthly income not exceeding $1,245 for a household of one, $1,681 for a household of two, $2,116 for a household of three, or $2,552 for a household of four. Income limits are raised by $436 for each additional person living in the home.

Applicants must make an appointment and apply at a Meals for Better Senior Living site in the county in which they reside. The Greensburg site is housed in the Greensburg Adult Center and can be reached Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at 812-663-2232. The Greensburg Adult Center will be making enrollment appointments on Tuesdays until the end of August.

Other Decatur County sites include the St. Paul Civic Center and the Westport Town Hall.

For more information, please contact Diana Robbins or Jerry Schwendenmann at the Greensburg Adult Center at 812-663-2232 or Sheila Woods at 812-372-6918 or swoods@thrive-alliance.org.
