Greensburg Daily News

---- — GREENSBURG – An accident on I-74 resulted in injuries to a Kentucky man and his son Thursday afternoon.

According to Indiana State Police Senior Trooper David Noah, the accident occurred at approximately 1:39 p.m. when a 2000 Peterbilt semi trailer driven by Ryan T. Young, 30, of Owenton, Ky., attempted to avoid a vehicle drifting into his lane while eastbound on I-74, near exit 132.

The driver told Trooper Noah he swerved to avoid the other vehicle and ran off the south side of the interstate. The semi was then driven up a hill and through a guardrail. Young continued eastbound and ramped the U.S. 421 interchange before striking another guardrail, tearing off the truck’s fuel tanks and causing its fuel to ignite.

The driver reportedly suffered minor facial and head injuries in the crash. His seven-year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered only scratches.

Both individuals were transported to Decatur County Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Senior Trooper Noah was assisted at the scene by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, the Greensburg Police Department, Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County EMS and the Indiana State Excise Police.
