Lots of fun planned for Independence Day celebration

The July 4 holiday begins with a bang at dusk at the Decatur County Fairgrounds Wednesday, July 3. The free community fireworks show courtesy of the Decatur County Parks and Recreaction Department also features a sale of nachos, popcorn, hot dogs and drinks by the Greensburg Kiwanis Club. The food will be available from 4 p.m. until the time of the fireworks show, which is expected to begin around 9 to 9:30 p.m. The proceeds from the snacks will go toward other Kiwanis community projects and to Riley Children’s Hospital.

On the holiday proper, the annual Tri-Kappa parade kicks off at the north side of the courthouse square at 10 a.m. During the parade, members of the First Presbyterian Church will distribute bottles of water to thirsty parade-goers. Look for water distribution in front of the church or through members pulling wagons loaded with water.

At the same time, the Decatur County Historical Society will be selling homemade ice cream on the front lawn before and during the parade. The museum will also be open for tours.
