The North Decatur boys basketball team went into overtime against visiting Indian Creek Thursday. Despite leading in the second half, the Chargers fell 62-53.
North led 13-11 after the first stop, and carried a 27-22 lead into halftime. Indian Creek, though, rallied back in the second half and challenged North’s home-court advantage. The Braves pulled to within two early in the third quarter, but sophomore Evan Wallpe continued to find success with a score off an assist from sophomore Dayne Lecher to make it 39-35. However, Creek had cut it to one point at 39-37 at the third stop.
Creek outscored North 10-8, and the teams were tied at 47-all to force overtime. The Braves outscored North 15-6 in the extra session to clinch the win.
North falls to 3-13 overall and 3-4 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference, while Indian Creek improves to 7-9 overall and 4-2 in the MHC.
Wallpe led North with 22 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the foul line and seven 2-point goals. Lecher followed with eight points, including two 3-pointers. Sophomore Luke Badgley scored seven (one triple), and sophomore Arek Holloway added six on his own pair of triples. Sophomore Donovan Meyer scored five (one trey), sophomore Andrew Hocker chipped in a trey for three points, and junior Austin Brown rounded out the scoring with two points.
North’s junior varsity team fell to the Braves 35-26. The North junior varsity squad fell 35-26 in the first game. North trailed 7-2 after the first quarter and 19-11 at the half. North outscored Creek in the third quarter, but it was not enough.
The Chargers had six players in the scoring column. Ignatio Martinez scored seven points to lead North, including a pair of 3-pointers. Kyle Kramer scored five, including 3-for-4 from the foul line. Fasbinder also scored five, including a triple. Landon Crites scored four, Ben Kinker hit a trey for three, and Luke Perdue added two.
North shot 6-for-12 from the foul line.
