Vectren boosts Business Appreciation Day

Greensburg — Greensburg’s annual Business Appreciation Day received a financial boost Friday courtesy of the Vectren Foundation.

Vectren Division Manager Bob Rogge and Senior Operations Supervisor Bill Baute presented a check for $2,500 to Greensburg Mayor Gary Herbert and Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Marc Coplon at City Hall, a donation intended to help cover some of the cost of the popular yearly event.

The foundation presented the City of Greensburg with a check for the same amount last year.

“These guys (Vectren) have been great to our community,” noted Mayor Herbert, who stated the company has recently helped the Tree City financially with the Fall Festival and last spring’s wide array of racing-themed “GoGreensburg” festivities.

Donations such as this, Coplon explained, are integral in keeping activities such as Business Appreciation Day running each year.

“This helps support our efforts to show our business people how much they’re appreciated with free activities,” mentioned the EDC Executive Director. “It’s because of our great sponsors.”

Those activities typically include golf, bowling, an evening of fine dining and a notable guest speaker, all of which are made possible by sponsors such as Vectren.

Coplon said Vectren and MainSource Bank are the two largest sponsors of Business Appreciation Day, which is also supported by Duke Energy, Decatur County REMC, Umbaugh and Associates, Barnes and Thornburg, and Honda Manufacturing of Indiana.

“We could not put this event on without the great sponsors we have,” Coplon continued, praising the proponents and commenting on how local business operations are vital within the community.

Rogge complimented Mayor Herbert and stated he enjoyed working with him.

“We’re really excited to be a part of the growth of Greensburg,” Rogge added.
