Greensburg — With the long march toward next month’s General Election winding down, students in Betsy Litmer’s North Decatur High School Government class are planning to get up close and personal with local candidates via the airwaves of WTRE.

The students’ election forum kicks off at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the North Decatur High School Library and will be broadcast live on both WTRE 1330 AM and 104.3 FM, according to information from Litmer.

Republican District 67 incumbent Randy Frye will meet Democratic challenger Tom Cheek from 4 to 4:30, followed by District 55 candidates Dave Moeller (D) and Cindy Ziemke (R). The latter two candidates will share the floor until 5 p.m.

The next hour belongs to County Council candidates Ernie Gauck, Geneva Hunt and Bill Metz, all of whom represent the GOP, who will field questions from students and the general public alongside Democrats Rick Kramer, Mike McCoy and Kenneth Stagge.

The two candidates vying to fill the position left by retiring Circuit Court Judge John Westhafer, Republican Tim Day and Democrat Robert Wickens, will close out the program from 6 to 7 p.m.

The judicial candidates and four State Representative candidates will each be offered a two minute period to ask their opposition a question.

Each candidate throughout the program will be given two minutes to answer each question. Each participant will also be permitted one minute to introduce himself or herself to the audience. The candidates will have an additional minute to offer a closing statement.

Questions submitted by members of the public as well as students will be asked of the candidates by NDHS Social Studies teacher Ernie Ruble.

Decatur Countians wishing to submit a question may do so by contacting Betsy Litmer at bdavis@decaturco.k12.in.us. Questions may also be mailed to the school at 3172 North State Road 3 in Greensburg, care of Betsy Litmer.

All questions will be kept anonymous.
