In the regularly scheduled Decatur County Commissioners meeting Monday, the Highway Department shared its current state of affairs and bids for the Owner Occupied House Rehabilitation program were reported to be going well.
Mark Mohr, Decatur County highway superintendent, said the weather has not permitted the repair of potholes or stone roads which need covered.
Tree removal for repairs on Bridge 18, located on County Road 400 west, however,k have been finished, Mohr said.
United Consulting and Engineering submitted an inquiry for the rate of bridge inspections. The rate of a four-year contract will increase from approximately $206,000 to $277,000.
The price increase, United reported, is because of changes from the Indiana Division of the Federal Highway Administration. A United representative explained that a new inspection manual has been released which added three steps that bridge inspections did not previously include: score critical, ratings for all bridges, and more data for the Federal Highway Administration. Decatur County has 186 bridges to which the new standards will apply.
In other news, the Decatur County Department of Child Services will have a display on the courthouse lawn from April 12 to 19 for Child Abuse Prevention month.
