Pirate 7A boys fall to Shelbyville

The Greensburg 7A boys basketball team suffered a 54-24 loss to Shelbyville on Thursday.

The Pirates led 8-6 after the first period before the Bears rallied to take the lead 20-14 at the half.

In the third stanza, the young Pirates had no answer for Shelbyville as they outscored the Blue 24-7 to put the game out of reach.

Andrew Comer had 14 points, Mason McLeod 9 points and Cole Carder added one point. Dylan Mann had two rebounds and McLeod pulled down six boards.

“Ball movement, help defense and turnovers were not good tonight,” said coach Bob Barker.

The Pirates are now 4-3 on the season.

Co-Ed Volleyball League set

The Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department is offering a co-ed volleyball league set to begin on Monday, Jan. 5, 2014.

Rosters and the team entry fee of $190 must be turned in to the Parks Department office no later than Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013. Player fees of $10 for in-county players and $15 for out-of-county players must be paid prior to the first match. Rosters are limited to 12 players.

No presale tickets for Tip Off Classic

Greensburg’s boys varsity basketball team will participate in the Tip Off Classic on tonight (Saturday) Southport High School. The Pirates will play in the last of four games against North Central of Indianapolis starting at 7:45 p.m. The first game starts at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for all four games, and there are no pre-sale tickets.

Hall of Fame game tickets being sold

The Greensburg Pirates boys basketball team will participate in the prestigious City Securities Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday, Dec. 28. Greensburg will play Mt. Vernon in the first game (11 a.m.) followed by Columbus North versus Evansville Harrison. The consolation game between the two losing teams will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the championship game.

Tickets for all four games are being sold in Mr. Edwards’ athletic office each day for $10 per ticket. There are no assigned seats and there is not a limit on the number of tickets a person can purchase and they are for sale to all people.

If tickets remain at the door on the day of the tournament, they will cost $20. Greensburg wants to have a tremendous amount of fans at the Classic, so purchase your tickets as soon as possible.
