North and South girls both win

Both county girls basketball teams tallied conference wins Thursday night with big second-half finishes.

Lady Chargers dominate Waldron 59-31

The North Decatur girls basketball team improved to 6-3 overall, defeating Waldron 59-31 Thursday night at home.

The uplifting victory also signaled the fourth win in the past five games for the Lady Chargers.

North led 12-8 after the first quarter, and 23-15 at the half.

Eight different players, including all six seniors, scored in the third quarter to give North a 42-22 lead at the third stop.

North hosts Switzerland County (4-4), a potential sectional opponent, Saturday afternoon.

Lady Cougars post comeback win

The South Decatur girls basketball team trailed by nine points late in the third quarter, but the Lady Cougars roared back to post a 55-49 win over host Morristown.

Despite multiple starters with four fouls in the fourth quarter, the Cougars made clutch shots and secured the ball down the stretch. South outscored the Yellow Jackets 15-6 in the fourth quarter.

South improves to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference, its second straight MHC win.

The Cougars host a big game against state ranked Jac-Cen-Del Saturday. The Lady Eagles (7-1) are a potential sectional opponent and winners of the past five sectional championships.

More coverage and statistics of both games will be published in a future print edition.
