United Fund giving continues to increase

GREENSBURG – The Decatur County United Fund is pleased to announce that its 2013 Community Giving Campaign “Rooted in Decatur County….Lets Tend to Our Roots” has reached $400,360 which is 10 percent of its $390,000 goal.

This is the second largest campaign total in the organization’s 57-year history.

United Fund credits its many individual, corporate, employee, and retiree givers as helping to reach the annual giving campaign to that $399,810 mark for 2013. This is the fifth year in a row that United Fund has reached goal and puts the organization among the top 10 percent of United Ways/Funds in the state to reach goal.

Joane Cunningham, Executive Director, noted, “At a time when budgets are still being cut and available government money is shrinking, United Fund is proud to say we’re still here to help fund vitally important projects in the community.” Lora Williams, 2013 Campaign Chair, shared, “The additional funds donated by individuals and businesses will help improve education, income and health, the building blocks for a good quality of life.”

The funds from this year’s campaign will go to support collaborative projects that work to make lasting change in the community. The 22 agencies to benefit from the funding in 2014 include: Advocates for Children, American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bread of Life, Carousel Play and Learn Center, Catch A Ride, Community Healthcare Clinic, Decatur County 4-Kids, Decatur County Youth Baseball, Foster Grandparent Program, Girl Scouts, Head Start, Hospice, Human Services, Legal Aid, Meals on Wheels, New Directions, Decatur County Youth Soccer Club, St. Paul Senior Center, Turning Point, United Way 2-1-1, and Decatur County Family YMCA. Each agency offers valuable programs ranging from early childhood development and learning, improving family financial stability, improving health, safety training, food pantry resources, rent and utility assistance, mentoring one-on-one, domestic violence counseling and support groups, legal assistance, bereavement services, just to highlight a few.
