---- — Smyrna Guys & Gals 4-H Club

The Smyrna Guys & Gals held their annual Christmas party Dec. 12.

The club started off assembling fruit baskets for their Smyrna neighbors that they sang Christmas carols to later. Those that participated in this worthwhile event were Emma, Jane and Clare Spreckelson, Kaden Schroeder, Hunter and Morgan Burkart, and Ali and Kyle Norton. Adults assisting were leader Katie Spreckelson and Deana Burkart.

After singing, the group returned to begin their meeting with president Emma calling the meeting to order. Roll call was answered with everyone answering what they wanted for Christmas. Kyle then gave the secretary’s report. Katie gave the treasurer’s report. Morgan gave the Junior Leader’s report saying the group was organizing to promote the 4-H program to third graders in the county. The leaders were also ringing bells for the Cheer Fund.

New Business consisted of leader Katie reporting that the club did receive an Honor Club recognition! Also club members were encouraged to sign up for program trips, camps, and roundup because the deadline is Jan. 15. There will be an officer training in February, so continue to read the newsletter. It was voted to give a monetary donation to the Pregnancy Care Center and AGAPE. The club then had a pizza party with a gift exchange using a Left/Right story to determine the gift they received. Next meeting will be March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Millhousen Fire Dept.

Modern Trends Home Extension

Modern Trends met Tuesday, Dec. 17, for their Christmas lunch at the Sherman House in Batesville with ten members present. After lunch the members then returned to the home of Marlene Wolter for the party and gift exchange.

Chair-ladies for the celebration was Sharon Dennett and Marlene Wolter.

The members chose to exchange white elephant gifts and a donation was made to New Directions. A Christmas card from Pauline Kincaid was shared, Pauline was a former member of the club. The Hostess’ served pumpkin roll and drinks and favors shared was cookies, peanut brittle and a Christmas bell ornament. Members enjoyed a afternoon of chatting about their plans for various Christmas family plans.

Next meeting will be at the home of Kathryn Schoettmer on Jan. 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. weather permitting.
