Girl Scouts role-calling for past participants and paraphernalia

Greensburg — The Decatur County Girl Scouts are on the search for people and paraphernalia for their month long Girl Scout Exhibit.

The exhibit will be on display from Oct. 29 until Nov. 26. at the Decatur County Historical Society. Nov. 4 Girl Scout Day is planned, and the Decatur County Girl Scouts hope to have plenty of speakers available to speak to current scouts.

The Girl Scouts are on the search for the oldest Girl Scout in Decatur County. Sarah Crain, Membership Development for Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, said there has been little response from the women she’s called, but is still hoping to hear from old members. Currently, the best lead is a woman in Arbor Grove who will turn 90 this year.

Crain said the Girl Scouts are not only looking for the oldest Girl Scout, but for successful business women, past leaders, or past leaders who would be willing to speak during Girl Scout Day. The exhibit is also looking for paraphernalia, old uniforms, pictures and memorabilia to borrow and display for the month-long exhibit. The Girl Scouts are also on the hunt for a film named the The Golden Eaglet, a film about Girl Scouts shown in theaters after WWI.

Crain would also like to find the family with the most generations of Girl Scouts in Decatur County, and to discover when Girl Scouts first began in Decatur County. This year is the 100th year of the Girl Scouts’ existence.

Crain would like to add that the Girl Scouts are always in need of volunteers. There is a $12 registration fee, and adults are required to pass a background check. Men are welcome to volunteer. Please contact Sarah Crain for further information.
