Hickory Creek reminds its residents: “You’R Souper!”

Greensburg — As the Daily News arrived to Hickory Creek Wednesday afternoon, the soup had all been eaten and the dishes stacked away, but the day’s activities were far from finished.

Whether a bit too hot, a smidgen too cold or somewhere in between, the residents gobbled every cup of potato soup like it was just perfect and then gathered round the cleared tables for Community Bingo.

Hickory Creek at Greensburg Administrator Jim Hobbs anticipates that Wednesday’s inaugural “You’R Souper” event will be the first of a monthly gathering for the facility’s residents and guests.

“We’d eventually like to make this a public event,” Hobbs said. “But you might call this our “pilot” You’R Souper. For now, we’re inviting guests from one Greensburg organization or facility a month. We’ll see how it goes and talk about expanding later.”

Wednesday’s guests were from Skybird Manor Apartments.

“Our Bingo prizes are just quarters,” Hobbs added, “but we also gave away a “You’R Souper” apron. We put a piece of tape on a random soup mug, and the person who got that mug won the apron.”

As of now, You’R Souper doesn’t have a concrete schedule or hard date. Rather, Hobbs and his staff are intentionally leaving the scheduling flexible so the most advantageous regular timetable can be established through trial and error.

The next You’R Souper will take place sometime in February —

soup and guests to be determined.
