Greensburg — The Decatur County Family YMCA and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana’s deadline to sign up for LEGO robotics is March 8.

The YMCA and Girl Scouts will be teaching interested young women to make robots from 9 a.m. to noon, March 18 to 21.

The four-day program, which costs existing Girl Scouts $12.50, and non-Girl Scouts $24.50, will allow the YMCA to pay for the materials.

Participants will be using LEGO’s NXT Mindstorms, a kit which allows people to make small, motorized robots using a small programmable computer.

Forms can be found at the front desk of the YMCA, or interested parties can contact Girl Scout membership development manager, Sarah Crain.

The program will be run by Ryan Gelhaus, YMCA associative executive director. Gelhaus is looking for two more volunteers to help run the program. Volunteers will receive training three days before the event.

According to Crain, the program would normally cost $60, but Gelhaus applied for a grant, greatly reducing the cost.

The program will be held at the Decatur County YMCA, located at 1301 Kathys Way.

Sarah Crain can be contacted at 317-924-6890.
