Meng Teodoro was moved to tears Thursday afternoon as he stood before an appreciative audience of residents and staff, accepting “Employee of the Year” honors from Greensburg’s Morning Breeze Retirement Community.
First hired by the facility in 2008, Teodoro emigrated from the Philippines with the help of former Morning Breeze owners Dr. Ricardo and Edna Domingo. According to Morning Breeze Executive Director Holly Cole, the Domingo’s are friends with Teodoro’s entire family and helped him come to the US specifically to work at the facility.
In presenting the award to a visibly surprised and shaken Teodoro, Cole proclaimed, “His attention to detail and willingness to help others makes him an invaluable asset to the Morning Breeze family.”
She continued, “Over the last five years, his abilities and skills have grown to exceed the requirements of the jobs he performs. From day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of the building to working on special projects that go above and beyond what’s expected, Meng has always taken personal pride and responsibility in making sure everything is completed.”
Cole further praised Teodoro’s ability to “bring out the best in fellow of fellow employees,” and his “positive interaction with residents and visitors” alike. She also noted his never-ending drive to “make sure all residents have everything they need to make their stay at Morning Breeze the best it can possibly be,” characterizing his “hard work ethic and positive attitude,” as “something all employees, residents and visitors benefit from every day.”
After the award presentation, Cole presented a video to the gathering with messages of congratulation from the Domingos and from members of Teodoro’s family back in the Philippines, which moved Teodoro to further tears.
Following the video, Teodoro posed with Morning Breeze employees and with his immediate family — wife Rosita, son Simon and daughter Sandy — for photographs. Then there was congratulatory cake and camaraderie, with residents, visitors and staff all celebrating Teodoro’s accolade.
