Holdsworth represents Pirates with Trester Award

INDIANAPOLIS – Following Saturday’s Class 3A championship game, members of the IHSAA Executive Committee named Macy Holdsworth of Greensburg High School as the winner of the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award in Class 3A Boys Basketball.

The award is annually presented to a senior participant in the state finals who best demonstrates mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability and is named after the IHSAA’s first commissioner who served the Association from 1929 to 1944.

“It’s icing on the cake,” said Holdsworth of receiving the award. “It’s a great honor, and I’m so blessed to have gotten it. I just want to thank everyone about that. We take pride in our academics as well as our athletics, so it’s been a great ride.”

Holdsworth ranks seventh in his senior class of 135 students with a 3.9 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council and has been an academic mentor for junior high students in the community. He’s coached youth basketball and baseball teams for four years each and is also president of his Church Youth Group. Besides being a four-year varsity starter for the Pirates, he anticipates starting for a fourth year for the baseball team this spring.

He is the son of Scott and Kara Holdsworth of Greensburg and plans to study Physical Therapy at Indiana University where he will play baseball for the Hoosiers.

Greensburg head coach Stacy Meyer said he is pleased that Holdsworth had the chance to represent the team.

“Macy deserves that, and he represents all of these guys on our basketball team,” said Meyer. “You could pick any of these guys out that could be recipients for that. You’d look at Grade Point Averages and everything these kids have accomplished in the classroom. It’s outstanding.”
