SDHS Fall Fun Run racing to success

WESTPORT – Steady rain and bone-chilling temperatures weren’t enough to keep nearly 40 runners from taking part in the second annual Fall Fun Run, hosted by the Music Parents of South Decatur High School (SDHS) in Westport Saturday.

Each participant paid a $25 entry fee, which will be used to fund the Disney World trip for the band and choir students. The first Fall Fun Run took place on the high school’s grounds, but for its second running, the race took to the streets of Westport, with the aid of the Westport Town Marshals and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department.

Runners, walkers and even a couple furry, four-legged racers departed from the Westport Clinic at 9 a.m. to cover the 3.1 mile course in their best possible time. The race was timed by Indiana Timing and trophies were given for the first male and female to cross the finish line in each of the seven age groups. There was also a special award given for the first dog to cross the finish line.

After they crossed the finish line, racers were treated to a variety of healthy snacks and drinks. Door prizes were also awarded to racers throughout the event and prizes were collected after crossing the finish line. Following the race, many participants went to the Westport Health and Business Expo.

The endurance and dedication shown by each racer who took part in the Fall Fun Run is to be admired, as the cold weather and rain would keep most people from participating. The Music Parents of SDHS wish to extend their gratitude to everyone who had a hand in making the second annual Fall Fun Run a success.
