---- — GREENSBURG – Wednesday afternoon, Greensburg’s Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) #927 presented a check for $3,058 to Greensburg’s Delta Theta Tau Sorority Lambda Chapter.
The check represents the profits from the Sorority’s annual Vera Bradley Bingo event, which was held at the FOE facilities in October. The FOE donated the use of their building, charging nothing for the Sorority to hold their event there because all money raise is funneled directly back into the community and the FOE is a very community-oriented organization.
The bylaws of the philanthropic organization require that the money raised go through the Eagles and then back to Delta Theta Tau. According to Sorority Treasurer Kathy Moore, all the proceeds from all Sorority fundraisers are used to aid the community in some form, whether it is buying items for local schools, or helping at a benefit or even donating back to the FOE.
The Greensburg FOE is currently raising money for Camp Riley, a summer camp for children with physical disabilities run by Riley Hospital for Children. Some of the money will likely go back to the Eagles to assist with that endeavor, according to sorority member Brenda McKibbin. Although the rest of the money is not earmarked for a specific use yet, Delta Theta Tau Treasurer Kathy Moore told the Daily News that it will be used to benefit the local community.
The FOE and Delta Theta Tau began their partnership last year with 2012’s Vera Bradley Bingo event. Both groups enjoyed working together to host the event and the relationship is mutually beneficial. Leaders of both the FOE and the Sorority reported they intended to continue the partnership for many years to come.
