United Fund Campaign to benefit 22 non-profits

Rooted in Decatur County…..Let’s Tend to Our Roots is the 2013 Campaign theme for the Decatur County United Fund. This theme lends well to the strength of individuals and businesses that want to see our community thrive. United Fund focuses on programs related to education, health and income. We all know when one area thrives, we all thrive.

“Our campaign currently stands at $150,994, 38% of goal,” reported Executive Director Joane Cunningham.

Campaign Chairs Lora Williams, along with her husband Tim, have led a county-wide effort to raise funds that will benefit 22 non-profit partners in 2014. “We still have about $239,006 to go to reach our goal of $390,000. Every dollar counts,” said Lora Williams. “We’ve had great support for the campaign so far, and we appreciate all of the contributions. With these strong ‘roots,’ supporters ensure that our community will continue to produce great ‘fruit’ through the United Fund and our partners!”

Once met, that $390,000 will fund groups like Advocates for Children, American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bread of Life, Carousel Play & Learn Center, Catch A Ride, Community Healthcare Clinic, Decatur County 4-Kids, Decatur County Youth Baseball, Decatur County Youth Soccer, Foster Grandparent Program, Girl Scouts, Head Start, Hospice, Human Services, Legal Aid, Meals on Wheels, New Directions, St. Paul Senior Center, Turning Point, United Way 2-1-1 and the YMCA.

Cunningham stated, “Luckily this has always been a very generous community, so hopefully we can fulfill our funding promises to each of the agencies we hope to support next year. We’re just waiting to hit that 100% mark before we can do that.”
