Rolls-Royce to open Indy facility

Rolls-Royce will officially open a new production facility Monday in Indianapolis. The company says the site produces components for advanced military and commercial jet engines.

Grant includes N.D. researchers

A global democracy research initiative, which has its U.S. base at the University of Notre Dame, has landed a nearly $6 million grant. The Varieties of Democracy project includes researchers from more than a dozen universities throughout the world.

Kimball Names Executive VP

Japser-based Kimball International Inc. (Nasdaq: KBALB) has appointed Don Van Winkle executive vice president. He currently serves as president of the company’s Office Furniture Group and will remain in that role.

IU Donation focuses on women in Asia

A $100,000 endowment has been established at Indiana University to fund initiatives designed to educate and empower women of the Asia-Pacific region. The gift is from Martha Tilaar, a cosmetics entrepreneur in Indonesia and Alex Tilaar, an education advocate in the Asian nation.

Biomet closes on acquisition

Warsaw-based Biomet Inc. has completed a deal to buy a Colorado-based spinal technology manufacturer. Biomet Spine, Bone Healing & Microfixation President Adam Johnson says the Lanx Inc. acquisition helps position the company for “significant growth” in a key market.

Purdue names development VP

Purdue University has named Amy Noah vice president for development. She has worked in the school’s development office for more than 12 years and has served as interim vice president since April.

Grant to boost research technology

A partnership involving Indiana University’s National Center for Genome Analysis Support has received a $4 million grant from the National Cancer Institute. The funding will support efforts to advance software used by scientists at the center.

RV dealer sets up endowment

Ivy Tech Community College has set up an endowed scholarship fund after a donation from a well-known Hoosier recreational vehicle dealer. The school says the $50,000 donation from Tom Raper will cover five scholarships annually.
