Ponderosa setting a [free] place for veterans

GREENSBURG —For the fifth year, Ponderosa Steakhouse of Greensburg will observe Veterans Day Monday with a free buffet and beverage for veterans.

Manager Lori Crawley told the Daily News the offer extends to anyone currently serving in the US military or who has previously served.

“Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy, US Coast – whatever branch you served in,” Crawley said, “you’re welcome to come enjoy a free meal on us. We want to honor and thank all of you for your service to our country.”

She continued, “We don’t do a military discount during the year, so we honor our veterans on this one day of the year with a free meal. Our veterans have earned this; they’ve put their lives on the line for all of us. Young or senior, we owe you a debt for your service.”

Crawley added that, to date, the event has been a great success and seems to attract more veterans each year. “It just keeps getting bigger,” she said. “We’ve had more calls than ever asking about it this year. We won’t be stopping this event, either.”

There will be a table set up inside the restaurant with a flag, commemorative pictures and a poster veterans can sign, the manager added.

Crawley’s father is himself an Army veteran from the Vietnam era. The stories she’s heard from him over the years, she said, definitely played a role in the decision to create the Veterans Day promotion.

“He’s definitely served our country,” she said. “And I know he’ll be here on Veterans Day. He’s been to every one of them so far.”
