CVS Robbery Suspect Found Dead East of Greensburg

Greensburg — A 4 p.m. Friday 911 call alerted local authorities to a deceased man by the railroad tracks at State Road 46 and County Road 350 East. The individual was identified as Benjamin C. Anderson.

The Greensburg Police Department, a press release explains, was notified of a robbery at CVS on N. Lincoln St. just before 10 p.m. Thursday in which a lone male entered the store and approached the pharmacy counter. The individual informed the pharmacist he had a gun but did not want to hurt anyone and asked for oxycontin. After the pharmacist complied, the man left the store, and no vehicle was observed.

Early Friday morning, the GPD received a call from the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department requesting that they check a Greensburg address for a vehicle that had been taken without the owners' permission, the release continues. At this time, the GPD was informed the suspect allegedly in unauthorized control of the vehicle was Anderson.

At 10:15 a.m., the GPD released, the Decatur County Sheriff's Department received a report of an abandoned vehicle near State Road 46 and County Road 400 East. When deputies arrived, the release states, the vehicle was found to match the Bartholomew County description and contained evidence of the CVS robbery.

At about 4 p.m. Friday, the DCSD received a call of a deceased male along the railroad tracks just west of where the vehicle had been found. The individual was identified as Anderson, and evidence on his body was also linked to the robbery at CVS.

The cause of his death has not yet been determined, but an autopsy will be performed, including toxicology to determine if drugs factored into his demise.

Participating in the investigation are the GPD, DCSD, Decatur County Coroner's Office and the Indiana State Police. Decatur County EMS also assisted at the scene of the death investigation.
