South Decatur freshman Lydia Wolterman is playing her first season of high school golf.
However, the first-year student leads the Lady Cougars this fall on the fairways, and is making a case as one of the best golfers in the Mid-Hoosier Conference.
Wolterman is averaging a team-low 44 for nine holes, according to head coach Josh Grossman.
Saturday, Wolterman tied with Indian Creek’s Tori Caudill with an 86 at the Charger Invitational, but officially took second after falling in a playoff for medalist. Four other teams from the Mid-Hoosier Conference competed in the tournament.
The Lady Cougars visited North Branch Golf Course Tuesday to play North Decatur on the Meadow Nine. South fell to North 209-226, but Wolterman was the meet medalist with a 45.
Wolterman has a chance to help South excel in the Sectional Tournament this Saturday at Greensburg Country Club, and advance individually.
