The Greensburg girls golf team played its final season match with a top 20 Columbus North team Wednesday afternoon at the Greensburg Country Club.
Columbus won the match 159-191.Columbus North’s Sydney Anderson shot one-under-34 to take medalist honors.
Despite a triple bogey on No. 7, Greensburg sopohomore Britney Biltz shot a very respectable 40. Greensburg finished its regular season at 7-7. They were sixth in the Greensburg Invitational, fifth in the Shelbyville Invitation, and fifth in the Conference.
“We have some key sophomores coming back next year so I think we will be very strong,” commented Coach Terry Alverson. “We will miss one senior, Tori Giddings, and she has been a positive influence on the team.”
Greensburg plays in a tough, realigned sectional, Saturday fighting for one of the top three spots to move on to the Regional.
“There are no guarantees that we will be one of those teams,” said Alverson. “You have to consider there is really only one spot available among the 10 other teams to fight over. Both Columbus teams will shoot low scores. Greensburg will have to play solid golf to be in the hunt. I do think we are starting to see some positive results from the work we have been doing, so hopefully we can peak at the right time.”
