Clarksburg VFD chili supper a success

CLARKSBURG — The Clarksburg Community Volunteer Fire Department held its annual meeting and chili supper last week.

The dinner was very well attended with firefighters cooking chili, hot dogs and a variety of donated deserts. Attendees described the food as excellent this year, as always.

During the meeting, several raffle winners were drawn and the highlight of the evening was a presentation by Sharon Kobeske from the Lake Santee Women’s Club to Wayne Geis for $5,000 going to the building fund.

The Clarksburg Community Volunteer Fire Department is involved in a building fund campaign to build a second station at Lake Santee.

It will be known as CCVFD Station No - 2.

The purpose of this new station is to move more firefighting and EMS equipment toward the south and southeastern portion of the 100 square mile fire service area.

The additional equipment will allow the department to reduce the response time for calls in that portion of the service area by several minutes.

It will also allow the use of an EMS vehicle rather than deploying a fire truck in order to reduce costs.

Medical calls represent approximately 85 percent of total annual emergency response runs.

The building fund is being spearheaded by volunteers from Lake Santee. The new building is designed to provide access to both the County Road and Santee Drive.

County Road 350 is to the south of Lake Santee and to Santee Drive on the north side of the building. The goal is to raise $155,000 to build the building.

As of this writing, the fund is near 80 percent of its goal.
