Biltz advances in competitive golf sectional

“We’re all one big family,” she said.

Biltz added that her motivation was to beat Batesville’s Madison McCreary, who placed third overall with a 79.

“My motivation is to beat Batesville’s No. 1,” said Biltz. “She’s a really good golfer, and we’re good friends.”

For North, who return all golfers next season, Hannah Andrews shot a team-low 106. Andrews shot a 56 on the front nine and a 50 on the back. Nicole Scott followed with a 112 (56-56). JoBeth Martin carded a 113 (60-53), Emily Martin shot a 116 (58-58) and Allison Byrd totaled a 123 (66-57).

For South, Lydia Wolterman missed advancing to regionals by one stroke (99). She shot a 51 on the front nine and a 48 on the back, including a birdie on hole 10. Senior Taylor Vannatta was second for South with a 111 (54-57). Olivia Clarkson shot a 119 (62-57), with a birdie on hole 17, senior Tayler Noble shot a 124 (67-57) and Breanna Evans shot a 142 (74-68).

Coach Alverson said the Greensburg girls return all but one golfer next season.

“With the exception of senior Tori Giddings, everyone on the team are sophomores. I expect we will come back stronger next year,” he said. “Many of the girls will be working hard during the off season and that is where the improvement has to take place.”

Team totals: 1. Columbus North 344, 2. Columbus East 346, 3. Batesville 373, 4. Greensburg 389, 5. Rushville 391, 6. East Central 428, 7. Oldenburg 431, 8. North Decatur 447, 9. South Decatur 453, 10. Milan 486, 11. South Ripley 506.

Jac-Cen-Del sent three golfers to compete individually.
