'Day of Caring' a huge success

Greensburg Daily News

---- — Eighty-five adults. 63 students. 25 projects. One cause.

The Decatur County United Fund’s Day of Caring was held last week, with area students and adults alike cleaning, painting, weeding and more on behalf of numerous organizations around the county.

“Oftentimes local not-for-profits don’t have the time, manpower or financial resources to get projects completed,” explained DCUF Executive Director Joane Cunningham. “Volunteers filled many of those voids by providing much appreciated volunteer work to many agencies.”

Volunteers participating in activities included teams from: Duke Energy, Fifth Third Bank, Frontier, GECOM, KB Specialty Foods, MainSource, Decatur Co. REMC and United Fund Board members. Students from each of the area high schools also participated.

Groups receiving a helping hand included 2-1-1, Bread of Life Soup Kitchen, Carousel Play & Learn, Community Action Coalition, Community Healthcare Clinic, Dec. Co. Community Foundation, Decatur Co. Historical Society, Decatur Co. Park & Rec, Decatur County Youth Baseball, Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter, Developmental Services, Head Start, Human Services, Main Street Greensburg, Letts and Westport Volunteer Fire Departments, Stapps Circle S Ranch, and the YMCA.

“All in all, the day was a success,” Cunningham said. “Any time you get people working together for a good cause, you’ve succeeded.”
