GREENSBURG – KB Specialty Foods celebrated 40 years at their location on Broadway Street with many guests from the Greensburg community Saturday afternoon.
KB Foods has been supplying many of the packaged salads for Kroger grocery stores for years. Saturday, they opened their doors to the public in an open house style 40th anniversary celebration. After parking, guests were greeted at welcome tables just inside the gates, where each person was given a gift tote and a raffle ticket to enter for door prizes, as well as information about the event and a chance to sign up for a plant tour.
Large tents were set up to provide shade for KB Foods employees and guests as they perused an extensive selection of product samples. All of the food available was produced at KB Specialty Foods or another Kroger associate. A wide variety of options, from grilled hot dogs to potato salad to yogurt were ready for guests to sample.
Another large tent filled with tables gave guests a chance to relax in comfort as they enjoyed their food. At any given time during the celebration, one was likely to see several dozen people in line for food, several more at the tables and a large crowd milling about, enjoying the other entertainment available.
A bounce house provided much entertainment to little ones, as did the fire truck the Greensburg Fire Department brought along and the police car from the Greensburg Police Department. A DJ was on hand for musical entertainment and speeches.
Plant tours were given throughout the event, usually in groups of around 10 people at a time. Each group was guided through the factory, learning about the way things are produced at the site. The tours began in the office area, where guests watched a short video called "The Safety Dance," set to the eponymous tune made famous by the band Men at Work in the early 1980s.
The video featured KB Specialty Foods associates goofing around in their different areas while the lyrics of the songs were changed to reflect safety values in a lighthearted atmosphere.
From the office area, the tours took guests through the production area of the facility, where knowledgeable tour guides provided interesting information along the way. Each tour took a little longer than half and hour before leading guests back outside to the festivities.
KB Specialty Foods Human Resources Manager Cindy Welsh said, "We would like to thank the community for embracing our celebration, as well as all our family and friends who came out. It's been a huge success and we look forward to another 40 years."
