Greensburg — The Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library will celebrate the "Dog Days" of summer from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.

According to children's librarian Jill Pratt, "Dog Days" is an event for animal and dog lovers of all ages, geared especially toward kids.

"This is our first attempt to host an animal fair here at the library," Pratt said. "If it's successful, we'd like to make it an annual event."

The Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter will be on hand with local-area dogs in need of a home. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and even adopt these needy animals. Adoption fees apply.

The event will also feature animal rescue groups, a dog trainer and a groomer. Representatives from Greensburg's ÔDogs All Day' pet-boarding facility will be on hand, too, as will representatives from ÔPampered Paws Pet Grooming.'

Certified therapy dog, Nelson, will also be attending. Nelson, who's visited the library before, is an English Sheepdog trained as a "tail-waggin' tutor." He encourages child literacy by providing a captive listening audience. Nelson, who's always up for a good story, will be available for to kids to read to.

"Dog Days" will also feature doggie crafts and snacks.

Pratt encourages everyone to come out.

"[Dog Days] will be a fun day for the whole family," she said. "But especially for animal lovers. And what kid isn't an animal lover?"
