North and South Decatur Schools registration dates

GREENSBURG -- North and South Decatur Elementary, Junior High and High Schools will be holding registration for the 2013-2014 school year from 8 a.m. to noon, July 27; from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 29; and from noon to 8 p.m., July 30.

All the schools will have their first day Aug. 5, while the Greensburg schools return August 1. North Decatur Elementary School (NDES) will be holding an Open House back-to-school night Aug. 5, after the first full day of school. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is expected to last until 7 p.m. According to NDES principal Rob Smith, teachers will have information for parents about routines, expectations and events. The PTO will have a booth set up for any parents interested in assisting with school events and school spirit wear will be available for sale. The school office can be reached at 812-663-9215.

North Decatur Jr.-Sr. High School (NDHS) will be holding an orientation for new seventh-grade students Aug. 1. The orientation is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and end between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Students new to the high school building will have an opportunity to meet their teachers, run through a mock schedule and attempt to test their new lockers, said NDHS principal Gary Cook. Staff will also explain some of the routines at the school that will be big changes for the new students. The school office can be reached at 812-663-4204.

South Decatur Elementary School (SDES) will have a back to school night from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Aug. 1. Students and parents will have a chance to tour the building, sign up for clubs and activities, meet teachers, purchase agendas, and pay any book rental or lunch fees. In addition, the PTO will have a table set up to allow parents to view samples from upcoming fundraisers. Pizzalicious will be on hand with prepared pizzas for sale, so families don’t have to go home to make a late dinner. SDES principal Kara Holdsworth reminded parents that all students need to register for school, even if they are previously enrolled at SDES. The registration process gives the school a chance to collect updated information on each student, allowing SDES to provide a better school environment. The school office can be reached at 812-591-3115.
