GREENSBURG — A fire in the second story of a house in western Greensburg caused about $60,000 in damages, but injured no occupants.
The fire began early Friday evening in the second-story bedroom at 4245 Old Indiana 46, east of County Road 450W.
When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of the second-story window on the home’s east side, said Juston Israel, assistant chief of the Burney-Clay Township Fire Department.
None of the occupants was injured, Israel said, though one firefighter injured his shoulder while battling the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Israel said.
Crews knocked down the fire within 15 minutes and contained the fire damage to the bedroom, but Israel said one other room sustained water damage, and the rest of the house suffered smoke damage, which will require extensive cleanup.
Israel said 12 firefighters of his department responded and received assistance from Letts and Greensburg Fire departments, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department and Decatur County EMS.
In total, firefighters spent about three hours on the scene.
