ADAMS — A 120-day closure of Old U.S. 421 will begin Monday because of a bridge replacement.
A local detour routes traffic to CR 420 West and CR 300 North.
The 1935 twin arch over Clifty Creek on Old U.S. 421 in Adams Township will be demolished and replaced by a new three-span, 185-foot-long concrete I-beam bridge capable of accommodating two 12-foot lanes with shoulders.
A $1.5 million project sponsored by Decatur County is making reconstruction of the bridge possible. Dave O’Mara, of North Vernon, is the prime contractor.
The project is financed with 80 percent of the funding from the Federal Highway Administration and 20 percent from the local sponsor, Decatur County. The Indiana Department of Transportation administers federal monies and assures compliance with highway administration standards.
United Consulting of Indianapolis is the engineering consultant.
