Seymour — Jenny Maddux of Greensburg was named Professional of the Year by Developmental Services, Inc. Thursday night for her work and advocacy of individuals with disabilities.

Maddux received the honor at DSI’s 37th Annual Anniversary banquet which was held at the Pines Evergreen Room in Seymour.

“Jenny Maddux is a young woman who, according to her department’s senior manager, seems to constantly redefine the definition of “professional”, said Sam Simmermaker, the event’s Master of Ceremonies.  “That’s because she’s always setting the bar higher.”

Maddux was honored for demonstrating strong leadership in Decatur County by taking the initiative in public awareness, fundraising events and other team-oriented DSI initiatives. Her management role in serving individuals with disabilities has earned praise from customers, co-workers, and consumers.

“Her compassion and her extraordinary ability to excel through the day-to-day work load while maintaining a positive spirit and professional approach to all aspects of her job makes her a true professional,” said Mel Fields, DSI Director of Industry.

Additionally, GECOM Corporation in Greensburg received the Industry of the Year Award for providing work opportunities for individuals with disabilities that promote learning, skills development, and personal growth for 20 years.

“GECOM provides each worker with special challenges a chance to gain valuable work skills while earning a paycheck that helps them live more independently,” said Fields.

“Although our national economy has seen its share of sluggish growth in recent years, our honoree continued to provide consistent work for DSI consumers at Decatur Industries in Greensburg,” added Fields.  “The term “partnership” truly defines the working relationship that exists between us.”

The mission of Developmental Services, Inc. is “to provide services and support to people with barriers to attain self-direction, inclusion, personal fulfillment and productivity in all life areas.”
