Lowe's celebration honors customers, hosts 500

(Continued)

Although Saturday’s Customer Appreciation Day represented the largest single-day event planned for this year’s golden anniversary celebration, the company has been busy this year offering financial assistance to various agriculture-related programs and students planning a future career in related fields.

Kristy told the Daily News $2,000 was given to each of the FFA programs at North Decatur High School, Greensburg Community High School and South Decatur High School earlier this year, in addition to a pair of identical donations to the local 4-H program and the Decatur County Community Foundation’s Ag Field of Interest Fund.

Those gifts came on the heels of three donations given to one student from each local high school last spring. Those scholarships were $1,000 each and were intended to help students planning a career in an agricultural field.

The business’ 30 or so employees will also reap the benefits of the anniversary, with one Lowe’s associate receiving an extra $50 each day throughout the month of July via a drawing.

Not at all forgotten in the celebration were Tim and Marge Hamilton, who helm the Milroy incarnation of Lowe’s Pellets and Grain. Both were part of the Greensburg event Saturday as well.

As for what the future holds, Kristy Lowe commented that keeping Lowe’s traditions of “quality, integrity and service” were paramount going forward.

She also complimented the efforts of the Lowe’s employees in helping keep the plant tidy for Saturday’s walkthroughs and she added thanks to Greensburg Community High School Home Economics Teacher Debbie Sellers for helping prepare the pork chop dinners. The main courses of those meals were provided by area pork producers, she said.

But it was the family, customers and other business associates that helped make Saturday’s celebration a memorable one.

“It was nice getting to spend time with people we have a working relationship with but rarely see in person,” said Kristy Lowe.

“And getting some face time to talk about the business side and life in general - it was neat to do that.”
