Four arrested on drug-related charges

Greensburg — Four Greensburg residents are currently housed at the Decatur County jail, facing multiple drug-related felony charges.

Matthew Lee Sneed, 30, faces the most highest number of charges — five — all of them felony class, including single counts of dealing in a schedule II controlled substance (A); dealing in a schedule IV controlled substance (B); dealing in marijuana (C); dealing in a substance represented to be a controlled substance (D); and maintaining a common nuisance (D).

Chasity Collins, 24, faces two felony counts, including dealing in a schedule II controlled substance (A) and maintaining a common nuisance (D).

Marrisa L. Thacker, 26, is charged with two felonies: possession of a controlled substance (D) and maintaining a common nuisance (D).

Amanda S. Hawley, 28, faces a single felony count of maintaining a common nuisance (D).

All four defendants lived at 745 North Michigan Avenue at the time of their arrest May Friday, according to court documents.

According to a police report filed in Decatur County Superior Court and a press release sent from the Greensburg Police Department (GPD) on the case, suspicion first fell on Sneed in November 2012 when police received a tip that he was dealing in controlled substances.

Working in conjunction with a confidential informant (CI), officers from the GPD and the Indiana State Police (ISP) conducted multiple drug buys with Sneed in November 2012 and also conducted one with him in January of this year.

Reports indicate that Sneed sold and offered to sell a range of illicit substances to undercover officers, including hydromorphone, lorazapam, marijuana, hydrocodone and methamphetamine.

During the course of their investigation, Collins fell under suspicion as Sneed’s supplier. Undercover officers subsequently conducted an undercover drug buy with her at the residence on North Michigan in January of this year.

The charges against Thacker and Hawley stem from the arrest warrant served at the North Michigan residence May 17.

The GPD press release states that police “received complaints from neighbors in the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue” regarding the residence.

In executing their May 17 warrant, police found all four defendants in the home and a three-year-old child as well, later identified as belonging to Collins. That child has since been taken into the care of the Indiana Department of Child Services. The GPD press release states the child was “being housed in deplorable conditions.”

In the course of their search, police also found hydrocodone pills and numerous drug-paraphernalia items, the majority of which was laced with a “white powder residue.” Additionally, the paraphernalia found by police suggests the defendants were both smoking and injecting illicit substances.

The GPD press release notes that the investigation continues and that further arrests are possible. Additionally, as several prescription drugs were involved in this case, police are also contacting local doctors to help prevent fraudulent prescriptions and thus help curtail the subversion of these drugs for illicit use.

Sneed is being held on a $100,000 commercial bond and Collins on a $30,000 commercial bond, while Hawley is being held on a $755 cash bond. As of press time Monday evening, no bond had yet been set for Thacker.
