Some of the audience in the meeting room of the Decatur County Extension Homemakers Office became emotional when Janet Bedel and Rueben Kissel each received a Certificate of Distinction.
Decatur County Extension Homemakers Association President Marilyn Davis became teary-eyed as she presented the plaque to Bedel, who has been involved with the homemakers for more than 40 years. Janet is also involved in the Night Club, and helps with the Puppy Pillows program for Riley Children’s hospital.
“This is not an April’s Fool joke,” said Marilyn as she handed the award to Janet.
Janet didn’t have much to say, except to thank the homemakers for bestowing the award to her.
Rueben Kissel, vocational agriculture teacher at South Decatur High School, has taught for many years. Kissel shared some stories of his adventures while working with judging teams and 4-H, resulting in rounds of laughter from rounds of memories.
Atina Rozhon, extension educator, said that winners of the Certificate of Distinction are submitted by others through an application process.
“We look at involvement in extension, community, volunteer efforts and things along those lines,” said Rozhon.
The Decatur County Homemakers are located at the Extension Office at 545 S County Road 200 W. and can be contacted at 812-663-8388.
