Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.
NCDMH messages and materials have reached millions of people in communities across the country.
According to the ADA, developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits help children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
In order to get children excited about their oral health, Dr. Robert Eversole, DDS, and staff created two different contests: a coloring contest for ages 3 to 6 and a short essay for ages 7 to 11.
Jessica Williams, age 9, was the short essay contest winner, while Bobbie Westerfeld, age 4, won the coloring contest. Both children received new bicycles as prizes Thursday afternoon.
When thinking about prizes, Dr. Eversole and staff wanted to intentionally promote healthy living habits. Winning a bike seemed like something children could be really excited about while such a prize also promotes physical activity and encourages children to play outdoors. The Greensburg Walmart Super Center also donated a bicycle helmet for each winner.
Dr. Eversole and staff stated they were very grateful to all who participated, and added they were looking forward to next year’s contest. Details for that contest will be available at www.roberteversoledds.com.
