---- — GREENSBURG – The Decatur County United Fund plays a significant role in mobilizing the community to develop and maintain resources to meet human needs by supporting programs and services addressing education, income and health in the community.
Recently the Community Investment Committee conducted agency interviews to determine funding for 2015. Decatur County United Fund strives to understand and meet the needs of all citizens, especially those who are experiencing difficult times. “We continue to drive discussions and actions that provide not only for the current needs of the community, but also for the changes and challenges that face our community in the future” stated Joane Cunningham, Executive Director, Decatur County United Fund.
United Fund is proud of the good stewardship demonstrated by the 11 member Community Investment Committee. The committee is comprised of the campaign chairs, two community-at-large members, committee chair and six other board members.
By working with and investing in over 20 partner agencies, the United Fund promotes programs and services that assist with child care, mentoring, hunger, transportation, domestic violence, youth leadership skills, legal aid, meals, fellowship, emergency assistance, and much more. These services are vital if Decatur County is to continue to be a strong and healthy community.
Cunningham noted, “We maintain a strong stance of support for the work already being done by other community-minded leaders and organizations. While the United Fund will continue to support programs that address education, income, health and basic needs for our community, we believe it is important to help reduce such needs in the future by making evidence-based investments. Agencies are demonstrating great outcomes to the community; making the investment and United Fund support worthy of consideration each year.”
To achieve change, the Decatur County United Fund is engaging in advocacy efforts in education, income, health and basic needs and the ability of the nonprofit sector to effectively serve human needs. The United Fund has begun to make changes that they believe is absolutely essential to meet the challenges that face this community. They are working in new, innovative and collaborative ways to build a stronger Decatur County. United Fund’s community impact requires that everyone work together –businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, foundations and local government.
Cunningham shared, “Instead of changing one life or one family, we’re changing the community for all lives and families. By recruiting the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done, together, we’ll make Decatur County a better place for everyone.”
These efforts are reinforced by the work currently being achieved through these focus areas:
• Strengthening families and children to reach their full potential.
• Providing basis needs and empowering people to live independently.
• Promoting health, wellness, and crisis intervention.
