GREENSBURG – The Greensburg Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants in town from 5 to 9 p.m. on May 12 and 13.
Water plant operator Chris Mauer said the flushing is routine preventative maintenance that prevents sediment from building up in the system.
Mauer said residents may notice a brown color to the water, but advised that it was still perfectly safe to drink. The color will be due to the shifting sediment as it is flushed from the system.
According to Mauer, residents may also notice a slight drop in water pressure, though he said both the brownish tint and the lower pressure should be cleared up by the next day.
Anyone with questions about the hydrant flushing or the water is invited to call the Water Department at 812-663-2641.
