INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Arsenal Tech High School student was shot in the arm Tuesday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department dispatchers confirm.
It happened around noon. School officials at the scene say the female student was shot on North Oriental Street, off of school property.
Officials say the student then walked onto school property and into an office to report the shooting.
Officials with Indianapolis Public Schools said the student was taken to a local hospital in good condition. Arsenal Tech was locked down while police searched the area, an IPS spokeswoman said.
IPS Superintendent Dr. Lewis Ferebee responded to the scene. Officials tweeted around 1 p.m. that Arsenal Tech, H L Harshman Middle School and Theodore Potter School 74 remained on lockdown.
Around 2 p.m., IMPD said the suspect was in custody after turning himself in to police.
