'Art Smart: Two Teachers' at Art on the Square Gallery Friday

GREENSBURG – Art on the Square Gallery, 114 E. Washington Street, on the north side of the Courthouse Square in downtown Greensburg, is pleased to present “Art Smart: Two Teachers,” a special exhibit this month by art teachers Bryan Moore of South Decatur High School and Dustin Smith of Greensburg Communith High School.

Bryan Moore, son of the late Larry and Donna Mohr, was born in 1967 in Greensburg and was raised in Westport. He was introduced to many art forms at an early age by his mother, his grandmother, the late Mary Spillman (who was an acrylic and folk artist,) and his uncle, the late Billy Green.

“Art to me is like breathing,” he said. “It’s just natural. I guess I can thank my mother for that.”

Moore has a deep passion for art, nature and sports. He likes mural painting, portrait pencil drawing and oil painting. His favorite style is Post-Impressionism and his favorite artist is Salvador Dali.

A 1990 graduate of Franklin College, Moore has taught at South Decatur for 16 years. He resides in Westport with his wife Tina and sons Brock, Blake and Bryce.

Greensburg High School art teacher Dustin Smith is a graduate of Milan High School where he first began learning about art from Bob Hunger. He studied at Savannah College of Art and Design and received his B.A. from Northern Kentucky University under the tutelage of Kevin Muente.

He also studied drawing with Muente one summer in London.

“The trip to London,” said Smith, “was the most inspirational time in my study of art.” The GCHS teacher is a still life painter whose works use simple objects to convey messages about environmental and economic issues.

“I try to take the simple items we use every day and elevate them to a heroic status,” the artist said. “I hope my art allows the viewer to take a moment to reflect upon and to appreciate the simple things.”
