Greensburg — A Decatur County man was injured in a fire at his residence Sunday afternoon.

According to information provided to the Daily News by Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Chief Brad Speer, the CVFD was dispatched to a house fire at 5756 East County Road 640 North at approximately 3:26 p.m. Sunday. Responders arrived at the residence at 3:37 p.m. and found two men who had escaped from the blaze, one of whom had suffered burns to his face and mouth. The man, whose name was not released to media Sunday, was treated at the scene, then transported to Decatur County Memorial Hospital. A Lifeline helicopter then transported the burn victim for further treatment.

Upon arrival, fire personnel found a second story bedroom engulfed in flames. Members of the CVFD were on the scene for approximately two hours in order to fully extinguish the blaze, which destroyed the bedroom and caused smoke damage throughout the home. The man injured is not the owner of the residence.

Chief Speer was not able to speculate on a cause for the fire, nor could he provide an update to the injured man’s condition. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Speer noted the owner of the home was not injured, and he stated both men are being assisted with lodging and clothing by the Red Cross. There was no homeowner’s insurance on the residence.

The Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department. The Greensburg Fire Department and New Point Volunteer Fire Department were initially dispatched to the scene but were called back when responders discovered their services were not needed.

The Daily News will have further updates on this story as they become available.
