---- — The Greensburg girls varsity soccer team fell 2-1 to visiting Rising Sun Tuesday in the season opener.

Head coach Mike Myers, though, was not discouraged with what he saw. He noted several positives, including good ball movement and spacing. However, a couple breakdowns in communication and multiple wide and high shots were a key to the loss.

The visitors found the net twice (once in each half) and held the Lady Pirates to one goal on 17 shots. The Lady Shiners made the most of the their nine shots, according to Myers, finding the net twice as “both teams showed good movement and made runs throughout the game.”

The Lady Pirates fall to 0-1 and they travel to South Dearborn on Thursday night to open EIAC play.

Sophomore Maddi Hellmich scored the only goal of the game off an assist from freshman Michaela Myers in the 68th minute of the game. Hellmich tallied five shots goal and senior Sydney Wettering led with seven.

Splitting keeper duties were freshman Emma Overmyer with seven saves and junior Cara Zeigler with two.
