DCMH Wound Care Center awarded for excellence

Greensburg — On Friday afternoon, the Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) Wound Care Center was presented with the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence Award; the Center also received the Center of Distinction Award.

Both awards were presented by the Center’s clinical partner, Healogics. Healogics Regional Clinical Operations Director Teresa Goffinet explained that the criteria to be awarded include: Operational for 12 months; a patient-satisfaction rating of 92 percent or higher; a healing rate of 91 percent or higher; and a median time to heal of 30 days or less.

“This Center’s outstanding clinical outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of a truly collaborative relationship between Healogics and DCMH,” Goffinet said. “This Center is successful because of great teamwork among the physicians, PDs, CCs, nurses, technicians and DCMH administration.”

Wound Care Center Program Director Cathy Elsea, who helped open the Center in August 2010 as a clinical coordinator, agreed with Goffinet’s assessment.

“Everyone’s done such a great job,” she said. “A lot of great team work has gone into making this Center so successful and into earning this award.”

Elsea refused to single out any member of the Wound Care Center team for especial praise, saying such accolades would inevitably and unfairly leave someone out.

“I can’t single anyone out,” she said. “Everyone here’s so good at his or her job; every piece is integral in making the whole as good as it is.”

According to Goffinet, DCMH Wound Care is one of “500-plus Centers managed through the Healogics Network.”

“The DCMH Wound Care Center,” she added, “has earned an excellent reputation in the community and has become the place to turn to when someone is faced with a chronic, non-healing wound.”

According to Elsea, the majority of the Wound Care Center’s patients are diabetics with non-healing leg and foot ulcers.

She added, however, that the Center also sees a high proportion venous insufficiency patients.
