Final decision on voting centers coming

The Decatur County Election Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in the courthouse meeting room to make a final decision on whether or not to adopt vote centers for the 2014 elections.

The Election Board may also consider combining certain precincts at the same poll location.

Vintage weapon on display at museum

A model 1860 Spencer Repeating Rifle is currently available for public view at the Decatur County Historical Society Museum. This weapon was influential in helping Union forces win several crucial American Civil War battles in the summer and fall of 1863 and later.

Miss Tree City deadline approaching

Sept. 7 is the deadline for applications for Miss Tree City. More information and entry forms are available at

Parade entries now being accepted

Entries are now being accepted for the 2013 Herb Kohler Memorial Parade powered by Honda. Part of the Tree City Fall Festival, the parade is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

Members of the 2013 Greensburg Community High School Class 3A State Championship team will be the grand marshals and will lead the procession down Broadway Street.

“We invite everyone to honor their favorite Hometown Heroes in their entries,” said Lana Martin, parade chairperson. “It could be a super volunteer or use your imagination.”
